Day #1: Tucson

After a little bit of a late start we left behind our beautiful home of 13 years without a wimper! (Well, maybe one or two) We were very happy in that home but it was so strange seeing it lifeless and empty. Just makes you realize that  "home" is not the structure but the people within it. Today, our car became our home---at least for a while.

We sold/donated/junked almost everything before we left. Our motto is "if it won't fit in the car, we don't keep it". Well, that was a little optimistic. We did get a small storage spot (5x5) for our grandfather clock and a few other things. Good news is we now KNOW that we'll be coming back, at least for those items.
We crammed the car with clothes and boy oh boy, do we have clothes packed in that car!?!  I guess that's why cars have side mirrors!! We can't see a thing in the rear view mirror.

We took our time with our ride, stopped when we felt like it, and drove only a total of about 6 hrs. We're here in Tucson and plan an early departure in the morning and hope to make it as far as Fort Stockton, Tx by tomorrow night. We will be making a small detour however- over dinner we decided to find a post office in the morning and ship a couple of bags/boxes of clothes to Bob's family on the east coast. We'll have a safer drive being able to see out the back.

We're so grateful to all of you who sent us off with love and encouragement and prayers for safety.
